How To Select The Best Non Stick Pan For Cooking Eggs

Non-stick pans come in different sizes, designs and the composition of the materials they are made from also differ.

Size does matter

The one thing to consider is the size of the pan. Do you need one that is big enough to cook for a large family or just one or two people? To cover all your basis, maybe consider purchasing a set that has two to three different sizes.

A small non-stick pan usually measures around 7 inches with the next size about 10-12 inch and the large family pan is around 15inches. Sizes may vary depending on the brand.

Whats it made from ?

There are a few different non-stick coatings on frying pans.

Teflon Coating

One downside to this particular coating is that it does tend to degrade over time.

Ceramic Cookware

The ceramic coating is made from hardened clay and are completely free from chemicals. Persistent hard scrubbing over a period of time may cause the ceramic to lose its non-stick properties.

Silicone non-stick coating

Silicon is believed to have low toxicity and thermal stability.

Enamelled Cast Iron Coating

Is considered safe with no leeching into the food.

Pro’s of Non-stick Pans

They heat quickly, the food won’t stick and they are lightweight.

Con’s of Non-stick Pans

Will scratch when used with metal utensils. They also can’t be used with high temperatures. They are for stove top use only.

Choosing the handles

Most non-stick quality frying pans have an Ergonomic style handle. It gives you an ease of gripping and rarely gets hot to handle. They are well attached to the body of the pan.

How to clean a non stick pan

In order to clean a non-stick pan, place it in the sink with warm water and dishwashing liquid. Dishwashing liquid is designed to cut through grease and remove bacteria.

Don’t use a pan spray to clean the pan as it may cause damage to the composition of the non-stick material.

It isn’t usual to have residue resistant to warm water and dishwashing liquid on a non-stick pan However if that does happen then a simple baking soda past will help. Never use abrasive material on it to remove stubborn residue as you will damage the non-stick coating.

How to choose the best non stick pan for eggs?

Before you purchase one, ask yourself.

  • Do you want to use the pan on the stovetop only or purchase one that is able to be used in the oven?
  • Do you want it just for cooking eggs or are you planning on using it for other cooking tasks?
  • Are you cooking for one or more?

Once you have answered all those questions, then the ultimate decision may be a Teflon coated non-stick pan that requires none or very little oil to cook with.  At the end of the day, no one but you can make that decision, as it’s a personal choice which non-stick pan for cooking eggs you purchase.

T-fal Ultimate Hard Anodized 2-Piece Scratch Resistant Titanium Nonstick

The T-fal range would be some of my favourite kitchenware I’ve had over the years.  These titanium scratch resistant non-stick fry pans certainly won’t let you down.

They are constructed with hard-anodized aluminium, which makes them very durable.  The hard titanium non-stick interior really takes a beating as well.  So you will get the maximum life out of the set.

They also have riveted silicone handles, which apart from being very comfortable, are also very safe to use.

I absolutely love the thermo spot heat indicator. Which is a great way to make sure your pan is nice and hot before throwing anything into it?  I also think its the only non-stick pans I’ve seen with that.

You can also up then into a 400o Fahrenheit oven without damaging them at all.

Pro’s

  • Decent build technology
  • Comes in a set

Con’s

  • A little pricey if you are starting out
  • You might need to spend more money if you want different sizes.

Caannasweis Nonstick Pan – 8 inch

I love this 8 inch skillet.  Its a fantastic stone coating pan.  Just like Ozeri above its a very eco friendly pan.  The handle is design integrated with wood grain.  Which is ok, I do prefer rubber heat resistant handle though.

Its got a magentized base which allow for rapid heat transfer, on induction cookers.  But its not suitabel for oven use. The 8inch is a great small pan to have on hand.  You can make anything from pancakes throug to ometles and quesadillas.

Pro’s

  • Love the 8 inch design
  • Th estone coating is an awesome type of non stick pan coating.

Con’s

  • Wood grain handle.  but thats my personal thing.
  • Costly when adding a few different sizes.
